Discover Seven Square Restaurant & Taproom Lounge

If there’s a place in San Francisco that knows how to blend warmth, flavor, and good times, it’s Seven Square Restaurant & Taproom Lounge at 299 2nd St, San Francisco, CA 94105, United States. Nestled right in the heart of SoMa, this spot feels like a home away from home for anyone who appreciates elevated comfort food paired with a solid craft beer list. I stopped by one Friday evening after work, and it was packed but welcoming-a clear sign that locals know where to unwind after a long day.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere hit that perfect balance between lively and relaxed. The warm wood tones, soft lighting, and open taproom layout set the scene for both casual catch-ups and cozy dinners. You can sit by the bar to chat with the friendly staff or tuck yourself into a corner booth for a more intimate vibe. The staff really know their stuff; when I asked about pairing options, the bartender suggested a house IPA that complemented my meal better than I could’ve guessed myself.

The menu covers a lot of ground without feeling overwhelming. There’s a mix of hearty American classics and modern dishes that reflect San Francisco’s diverse food culture. Their signature short rib burger stood out-not just for the tender meat but for how everything worked together, from the buttery brioche bun to the tangy aioli. I also tried the grilled salmon with roasted seasonal vegetables, and it was perfectly cooked, the skin crisp while the inside stayed juicy. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in sourcing fresh ingredients from local farms, something the staff mentioned they do year-round.

One of the best parts about dining here is the Taproom Lounge experience. The beer selection includes both well-known California craft brews and some unique small-batch options you won’t find elsewhere. They even rotate seasonal selections, so there’s always something new to try. I learned from the bartender that their partnership with a local microbrewery allows them to feature exclusive limited-edition taps-a definite plus for beer enthusiasts.

If you’re more of a cocktail person, you’re still in good hands. Their mixologists craft drinks that are as beautiful as they are flavorful. The bourbon-based drink I tried had hints of citrus and smoke, striking the perfect balance between sweet and bold. According to a recent local dining report, restaurants emphasizing creative drink programs see higher guest return rates, and that rings true here. You can feel how much thought goes into every pour and plate.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the sense of consistency. Many San Francisco restaurants can feel hit or miss depending on when you visit, but here, the service and food quality are steady. I’ve come back twice since that first visit-once for brunch and once for dinner-and both experiences were equally satisfying. The brunch crowd is a mix of families, couples, and tech professionals grabbing mimosas before heading to nearby museums or the ballpark. The smoked bacon omelet and house potatoes are worth every bite.

Reviews across multiple platforms echo the same sentiment: reliable, flavorful, and genuinely welcoming. In a city where dining trends come and go, this place has managed to build trust and loyalty. That’s something you can’t fake-it comes from doing the basics exceptionally well. The management team clearly values feedback; they’ve added plant-based menu options recently in response to customer requests, showing a real commitment to evolving with their guests.

For anyone exploring San Francisco or living nearby, this spot deserves a top spot on your list. It’s a reminder that a great restaurant doesn’t need to be flashy-it just needs to care about what it does. Between the flavorful menu, attentive service, and laid-back charm, this is one of those places that lingers in your memory long after you leave. Whether it’s a casual lunch, an after-work beer, or a weekend dinner with friends, Seven Square Restaurant & Taproom Lounge captures everything that makes dining in the city so special.

  • This is the only restaurant instead the Clancy hotel (besides the coffee stand). Menu is small for breakfast and during the day but the quality of food was very good! As was the service! We only had breakfast while staying at hotel. We had the breakfast burrito that was stufffed with eggs, roasted potatoes, cheddar, bacon, avocado and it was served with roasted salsa and house corn chips. It was very filling and can easily be shared for the price of $21. The Clancy Breakfast was a typical American style breakfast for $24.

  • Usual hotel breakfast restaurant. It met the expectations exactly. Everyone working here was friendly. I have not tried the buffet, but the a la carte menu items were prepared exactly the way that you expect them for a hotel breakfast.

  • Had breakfast dining in after SF run. Awesome size for the burrito (good to share with another person) and loco moco with curry Wagyu steak over rice. Staff was friendly and helpful getting the bill to include the $25 credit from the hotel stay.

  • Excellent dinner at The Clancy’s Seven Square Taproom tonight. Had the Korean wings, fried chicken sandwich, and the salted caramel bundt cake for dessert. Service was on top of things & dinner was flavorful & delicious. Extensive drink menu as well

  • Had the opportunity to try three items from their menu and they all were yummy! We placed the order to-go, to bring to our room and the food was cooked and placed in the to-go boxes with intention and care. We ordered the Seven Square burger with shoestring fries, the New Zealand lamb lollipops with mint chimichurri and pistachio crumble, and the kids butter pasta. The Seven Square burger was flavorful, the bun was purple and soft and the white cheddar was melty. The burger was also cooked the way we asked, a perfect medium. The New Zealand lamb lollipops were SCRUMPTIOUS! Cooked to perfection and the chimichurri/pistachio accompaniments elevated the flavor to a top tier combination. The kids pasta was a simple butter pasta with parmesan cheese and was a nice big portion. It was a tasty addition as a side for the lamb Overall great food (even to-go) and a really great value! Will order food here again the next time we stay at the Clancy Autograph

  • As a hotel, this place has a cool vibe. Very chill interiors. It also has several spaces indoors and out that invite conversations while enjoying a cocktail and some food. We were lucky enough to be there on an evening there was some live music - a saxophone - and it made the evening even more special. The Brussels sprouts were amazing! I could have eaten another bowl. Our wine was from the happy hour list and quite good (and reasonably priced). I would recommend SS for a business meeting, co-workers meet up, date night, friends get-together, or any other opportunity to go out for drink and a bite. Will definitely return!

  • We had dinner at Seven Square inside the Clancy Hotel during a recent work trip, mostly for convenience — and overall, it was a solid experience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with stylish Mediterranean-inspired touches, giving it a modern and upscale feel. That said, the atmosphere was a bit lacking. There was no music playing, bright lighting, which made the space feel a little lifeless and quiet for a dinner setting. On the bright side, the service was excellent, and the food was really good — well-prepared and flavorful. It’s a great option if you’re staying at the hotel and looking for a convenient spot with quality food and great hospitality, though a little background music and dim lighting could go a long way in bringing the space to life.
